## First Conversations, Lasting Impact

### Purpose

Create intentional, brief, and meaningful conversations between mentors and mentees that spark connection and open the door for longer-term relationships. Designed like speed dating, participants rotate through multiple rounds to explore fit, curiosity, and shared purpose.

### Core Goals

- *For Mentees:* Make authentic connections, gain clarity, and feel seen
- *For Mentors:* Offer perspective, spark ideas, and identify potential future mentees
- *For Both:* Explore fit, share stories, and discover next steps

### Event Overview

- **Duration:** 45 minutes total
- **Format:**
  - 5 min intro (goals + ground rules)
  - 4 rounds of 10 mins each (8–9 mins in breakout, 1–2 mins to switch)
  - Optional 5–10 min open networking at the end
- **Mode:** In-person and/or virtual
- **Attendee Cap:** Determined by number of mentors available

## Planning Checklist

#### 4–6 Weeks Before

- Send Save the Date (include teaser blog post: [The Power of Mentorship](../beyond-the-checklist/mentorship.html))
- Secure date, time, and location or virtual platform

#### 3–4 Weeks Before

- Identify and confirm mentors (diverse in expertise, experience, and style)
- Send email to Leadership and Managers requesting mentor participation
- Create Mentor Signup Form (include name, title, expertise, short bio)

#### 2 Weeks Before

- Promote event to mentees: signup form + event overview
- Include preview questions for reflection
- Begin pairing or random breakout planning

#### 1 Week Before

- Confirm all logistics
- Send reminders and prep guides to mentors and mentees

- Prepare 1–2 questions to ask a potential mentor
- Remember: You're not here to impress — you're here to connect

- Show up curious, open, and reflective

- Reflect back what you hear
- Keep answers concise to allow space for dialogue
